The Austria: the re-examination of an 1877 Shipwreck on the Olympic Coast
Faith Haney, Underwater Archaeologist. The barque Austria went aground in January 1877 in a severe storm on Cape Alava on the Olympic Coast, Washington, in what is now a National Marine Sanctuary. Underwater Archaeologist Faith Haney will discuss recent surveys of the site, the mapping its remains, new clues regarding the ship's demise and how shipwreck sites are public education tools for maritime history.

Wooden Boat Building: A Tour of Jespersen Boat Builders Ltd.
Bent Jespersen, Shipwright/Owner
Bent trained as a shipwright in Denmark. In 1955, he came to Canada where he worked at Philbrooks Shipyard in Sidney till 1973 when he started Jespersen Boat Builders Ltd., Western Canadas premiere wooden boat builders. He will give us a tour of his shipyard in Sidney and talk about classic and modern wood boat construction.
