Regular meetings are every second Wednesday of each month (except July and August) at 7pm at the Maritime Museum of British Columbia, 28 Bastion Square in Victoria. Everyone is welcome and there is no cost.

Darren has over 9 years of experience as a lawyer specializing in Admiralty Law. He has written numerous articles on marine safety, salvage, marine mammal protection etc for publications such as Mariner Life. He will talk to us about salvage law and marine topics of interest using real life cases.

History of Island Tug and Barge

Bob will give us a slide show and talk on the history of Victoria's Island Tug and Barge Ltd, one of Canadas greatest towing companies. Founded in 1925 under the leadership of Harold B. Elworthy with the tug Island Planet,the company has been involved in many well-known salvage and towing operations.

Nanaimo Shipping News and Annual General Meeting

David Hill-Turner Curator, Nanaimo Museum

David, President of the UASBC and Curator of the Nanaimo Museum will talk to us about the history of shipping at the Port of Nanaimo, from the time of the early Spanish explorers to the coal mining years of Robert Dunsmuir and beyond.

Pacific Coast Ship China

Jacques Marc, Author/Diver

Gone are the days when the grand steamships plied the Pacific coastal waters of North America and passengers enjoyed a sit-down dinner served on china with silver flatware. Today, the only places you can still find this china is at flea markets and antique shops or by diving at old dock sites and on shipwrecks. After many years of diving and documenting shipwrecks for the UASBC, Jacques has managed to find the time to research and publish a book entitled Pacific Coast Ship China. He will give us a talk about identifying and dating china and show slides of the patterns used.
